Kuala lumpur: Former doubles ace Koo Kien Keat has commended Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei on their historic triumph at the world championships, highlighting their maturity and perfect timing in peaking at the event. He praised Ee Wei as one of Malaysia’s best mixed doubles players, known for her sharp interceptions at the front court, and lauded Tang Jie for his exceptional speed and court coverage. “I did personally congratulate them. They were so humble, and I think they deserve this,” he told Bernama today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, another former national shuttler, Wong Pei Tty, emphasized that the victory by the world number four pair should be seen as the start of a significant journey for Malaysian badminton. She remarked that their gold medal in Paris carries deep significance, inspiring the next generation to believe that with hard work, they too can reach the pinnacle of world badminton.
“Firstly, congratulations to Tang Jie and Ee Wei on becoming world champions. It is a proud achievement for Malaysia. They showed great spirit, determination, and a smart tactical plan against China. To achieve greater success, they have to remain humble, maintain strong communication, and stay disciplined in their training and motivated in their goals,” she said.
Before Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s victory, Pei Tty and Kien Keat were Malaysia’s most successful mixed doubles pair at the world championships, having reached the semi-finals in the 2006 edition in Madrid.
In a thrilling match, Tang Jie-Ee Wei gave Malaysia the perfect 68th National Day gift by defeating second seeds Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin 21-15, 21-14 in just 40 minutes. The Malaysians, energized by shouts of ‘Merdeka!’, displayed an inspiring mix of power, precision, and patience to overcome the formidable Chinese pair, with Ee Wei excelling at the net and Tang Jie showcasing his prowess at the back court.
