Kuala lumpur: Tamil media practitioners should continue to be given opportunities, support, and proper training to enable them to keep producing quality work and contributing to the progress of society and the nation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching emphasized the importance of Tamil media practitioners participating in various courses and training sessions, including those organized by the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute (IPPTAR).
Teo highlighted the recent Basic Acting Workshop for the public, held from March 3 to 7, which provided 30 participants the chance to learn acting fundamentals and build self-confidence, opening doors for new talents. She expressed confidence that Tamil media can continue to play a vital role as a cultural bridge and the main voice of the Indian community, speaking at the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA fund contribution ceremony in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration at Wisma Bernama.
The event was also attended by notable figures including Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general (Telecommunications Infrastructure) Mano Verabathran, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, and Bernama editor-in-chief and HAWANA 2025 project director Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
Teo expressed appreciation for media practitioners who work tirelessly behind the scenes in delivering news and information. She noted that in line with the core values of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasize people’s well-being, social justice, and compassion, the government has implemented measures to uphold media professionalism.
These measures include extending social protection coverage for part-time media practitioners through contributions to the Employees Provident Fund and the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO). Professional development and training opportunities are also being provided by Bernama and IPPTAR, with the establishment of the Malaysian Media Council Act, effective June 14, as a self-regulatory body for the media industry.
