Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM Brings Hope To Media Practitioners In Need

Kuala lumpur: The media profession, often perceived as glamorous, is not immune to challenges, including the pressures of daily life, family commitments, and financial burdens that are rarely seen by the public.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, for TV3 Regional Correspondent Kadir Edison, 44, who has been struggling to cope with his wife's medical expenses, a contribution from the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM fund has not only eased his financial burden but also given hope to media practitioners facing hardship. "This fund has not only eased my family's financial burden, but also serves as proof that the welfare of media practitioners is being looked after during difficult times," he told reporters after receiving the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM contribution at his home today.

Also present were Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Bernama Head of Management Services and Finance Sharifah Zaini Syed Zain. Also in attendance was TM Sarawak Assistant General Manager Zakinah Tuah.

Kadir said his wife, Jenny Chieng, 40, was diagnosed with diabetes at the end of January after being rushed to hospital in a weakened condition before spending four days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). "According to the doctors, my wife's blood sugar level reached 31 mmol/L, far above the normal level, and specialists described her condition as alarming. Her condition became more serious when she also developed a lung infection and had to undergo treatment in hospital for about eight days," said Kadir, who has been serving with Media Prima since 2015.

Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM is an initiative under the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA fund, established through Telekom Malaysia's (TM) corporate social responsibility (CSR) contribution to expand assistance for media practitioners in need. Since the allocation began in June 2026, a total of 34 media practitioners nationwide have benefited from the initiative.

Since its introduction in April 2023, Tabung Kasih@HAWANA, an initiative by the Communications Ministry through Bernama, has benefited 800 media practitioners nationwide.
