Tanjung malim: Datuk Syafinaz Selamat has been reappointed Eminent Adjunct Professor at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris' (UPSI) Faculty of Music and Performing Arts (FMSP), in recognition of her extensive experience in music and the performing arts.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, UPSI Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff stated that the reappointment is set for a two-year term, effective from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2028. Previously, Syafinaz served as an Adjunct Professor at FMSP from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. Md Amin emphasized that this decision highlights the university's appreciation for Syafinaz's significant contributions to talent development and music education.
He further remarked that including industry leaders like Syafinaz in academia bridges the gap between music education and real-world developments, thereby offering students broader professional opportunities. Her position as an Eminent Adjunct Professor is a testament to her vast expertise in the music industry, which is expected to enhance the university's academic environment.
Md Amin also pointed out the importance of industry-academia collaboration in equipping UPSI graduates with not only academic knowledge but also the practical skills required in the creative industry. On her part, FMSP Dean Associate Prof Dr Muhammad Fazli Taib Saearani praised Syafinaz's contributions during her initial term, acknowledging her involvement in various academic and artistic projects with both staff and students.
During her first term, she co-supervised Music Performance PhD candidates, contributed to seminars, and led a masterclass on vocal performance. Furthermore, she has played a pivotal role in developing the deVokalis Choir, serving as its advisor, artistic director, and executive vocal advisor. Syafinaz is also actively preparing the choir for the 2026 Busan Choral Festival, focusing on enhancing their vocal training and stage performance.
In her statement, Syafinaz expressed her gratitude for the reappointment, describing it as a significant honor and pledging to fulfill her responsibilities with integrity and dedication. She acknowledged the trust placed in her by UPSI and FMSP, allowing her to share her vast industry experience and expertise accumulated over more than three decades.
