SWAN Initiative Aims to Empower Women and Foster Leadership

Putrajaya: The Women’s School (SWAN), an initiative spearheaded by the PKR women’s wing, is poised to serve as a significant catalyst in empowering women and transforming them into knowledgeable and visionary leaders.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wanita PKR chief Fadhlina Sidek emphasized that SWAN’s mission extends beyond merely achieving a 30 percent female representation in decision-making roles. The initiative is also focused on ensuring that women play a meaningful role in national development. Despite progress in education and workforce participation, women’s involvement in politics and leadership remains limited.

SWAN was established nearly a year ago with the goal of empowering women in social activism and human capital development. It is implemented with a well-structured framework, overseen by a principal to ensure smooth operations, and supported by a teaching staff of experts in various fields, Fadhlina noted in a Facebook post today.

Fadhlina, who also serves as the Education Minister and the Nibong Tebal member of parliament, highlighted that SWAN is open to individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and political affiliations. Participants are exposed to a diverse range of modules, including politics, democracy, human-centred economics, communication, law, personality development, and presentability.

While it may be premature to gauge the full impact of SWAN, Fadhlina stressed the importance of the initiative’s continuation. She noted that the effects of education require time, commitment, and sustained effort to manifest.

SWAN was officially launched by the Prime Minister’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, on May 7, 2024, in Putrajaya.
