IPOH: The suspension of the constitution of the National Farmers’ Organisation (NAFAS) is not politically motivated, said Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu today. He stated that the decision came after a discussion with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Sabu addressed speculation suggesting that AMANAH (Parti Amanah Negara) intended to dominate NAFAS by displacing UMNO representatives within the organisation. He clarified that the suspension was not linked to any political agenda and emphasized that it was agreed upon and supported by Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid. The minister highlighted that the move aims to enhance the management and governance of NAFAS.
The constitution of the National Farmers’ Organisation (NAFAS) has been suspended effective November 1. This order was issued by the Director-General of the Farmers’ Organisation Authority, Amir Matamin, who is acting as the Registrar of farmers’ organisations under Se
ction 20(1) of the Farmers’ Organisations Act 1973 (Act 109).
Furthermore, last Thursday, former Public Service director-general Tan Sri Zainal Rahim Seman was appointed as the NAFAS Advisory Council chairman, marking a significant development in the organisation’s leadership.
