PETALING JAYA, Sunway Pyramid Ice is currently hosting the 16th edition of Skate Malaysia and the third championship series of the Ice Skating Institute Asia (ISIAsia), running from June 26 to June 30. Sunway Pyramid Ice, Sunway Square and Sunway Giza Assistant general manager, Albert Cheok said this year's Skate Malaysia has been extended to a five-day programme, a first in its history, due to overwhelming response. "We are proud to announce a new milestone for Skate Malaysia this year, with 600 participants from Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Thailand, Kuwait, Qatar, the Philippines and the United States of America competing across 1,700 events," Cheok said at the opening ceremony at Sunway Pyramid here today. Also present were Subang Jaya state assemblyman Michelle Ng and Skate Malaysia competition director-cum-ISIAsia president Harry Janto Leo, among others. The opening ceremony of Skate Malaysia commenced with a grand parade featuring participants waving their country flags, followed by a performance by Malaysia's National Senior Champion ice skater Fang Ze Zeng. Cheok emphasised that Skate Malaysia exemplifies Sunway Malls' dedication to nurturing aspiring athletes and celebrating talent and skills. 'In today's world, many view our environment as a competitive arena for cultivating superior talents, products and advancements.
