Sunway Medical Centre Velocity Sets National Record For Largest ECG Screening Event

Kuala Lumpur: Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) has been officially recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for achieving the Most Participants in an ECG Screening event in Malaysia. The event, part of the ‘Pulse of Life: The Ultimate Heart Health Experience’ CSR initiative, saw 827 individuals screened over a three-day period.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this recognition highlights SMCV’s leadership as a tertiary care hospital in cardiac care, with heart health being a primary focus in providing comprehensive medical services to the community. For the first time nationally, SMCV brought ECG screening into a public setting, transforming Sunway Velocity Mall’s Main Atrium into a heart health hub from April 25 to 27.

The event drew significant attention, attracting Malaysians, expatriates, and international patients in Kuala Lumpur. This milestone underscores SMCV’s commitment to enhancing public health through community-driven initiatives focused on early detection and prevention. It also addresses Malaysia’s increasing cardiovascular health challenges, with ischaemic heart disease being the leading cause of death among those aged 41 to 59.

SMCV Chief Executive Officer Susan Cheow expressed pride in the MBOR recognition and noted the community’s proactive engagement in heart health management. Cheow emphasized that SMCV’s mission extends beyond hospital confines, aiming to make preventive care accessible and impactful. The record-setting screening and associated initiatives demonstrated the public’s readiness to prioritize their heart health.

The event was designed to empower individuals aged 18 and above to actively manage their heart health, offering complimentary ECG assessments by SMCV’s healthcare professionals. This approach brought essential heart care assessments directly to the community, promoting a shift in attitudes toward heart health and the necessity of accessible screening options outside traditional hospital settings.

Consultant Cardiologist and Internal Medicine Physician Datuk Dr Foo Yoke Loong highlighted the significance of early screening in addressing cardiovascular disease. The event was more than a record-breaking endeavor; it provided the community with crucial insights into their cardiovascular health, enabling them to recognize early signs and potential risks.

In addition to ECG screenings, the event featured the Immersive Visual Journey, a novel initiative in Malaysia that transformed real-time heartbeats into an artistic light display. The Heart Health Educational Gallery and Giant Heart Exhibit offered visitors an engaging learning experience about heart anatomy and function. Complimentary fitness workshops, partner booths, and health screenings for blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol were also available.

Through the Pulse of Life event and its strong public engagement, SMCV reinforces its dedication to making heart health education accessible and impactful, integrating it into everyday community life.
