Penang: Sunway Medical Centre Penang has strengthened its position as a leading destination for orthopaedic and spine care in Northern Malaysia with the opening of its Advanced Orthopaedic and Spine Centre. Chief executive officer Christine Lee Chwee Ngoh said the new facility reflects the hospital's commitment to bringing specialised treatment and healthcare innovation closer to communities in Penang and the northern region.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Lee emphasized the significance of the new centre as a strategic move to reinforce their role in advanced orthopaedic and spine care within Northern Malaysia. She expressed the hospital's honor in supporting the Penang2030 vision by offering quality healthcare innovation and compassionate care to the local community. The launch ceremony was officiated by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, with key figures such as Sunway Healthcare Group president Datuk Lau Beng Long and managing director Dr Khoo Chow Huat in attendance.
Lee highlighted that the centre provides a comprehensive range of orthopaedic and spine-related services at a single location, including specialised spine care, robotic-assisted joint replacement procedures, trauma management, rehabilitation, and physiotherapy. She pointed out that the centre's focus is not just on medical procedures and technology but also on aiding patients in regaining mobility, returning to work, and enjoying meaningful time with their loved ones.
Meanwhile, Chow noted that the centre's inauguration signifies a broader commitment to enabling people to lead healthier, more active, and productive lives. He mentioned that conditions such as back pain and joint problems could impact mobility and overall quality of life, especially given the physical demands of many modern occupations. Facilities like the Advanced Orthopaedic and Spine Centre are crucial in helping individuals remain active, independent, and able to contribute to society.
Chow also praised the centre's integrated approach, combining specialised treatment, rehabilitation services, and advanced medical technology under one roof. He encouraged healthcare providers to continue advancing medical expertise and technology while ensuring that healthcare remains accessible and affordable.
