Sunway Medical Centre Damansara Launches with RM460 Million Investment in Selangor Healthcare

Damansara:Sunway Medical Centre Damansara: The fourth tertiary hospital under the Sunway Healthcare Group has officially opened, marking a significant advancement in specialist healthcare and international patient care for communities in the Klang Valley.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the launch was officiated by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. He emphasized that the establishment of private hospitals like SMCD supports the state's Rancangan Selangor Kedua (RS-2) development plans, aiming to build a caring, livable, sustainable, and resilient state.

Amirudin highlighted that the healthcare industry is a critical component of Selangor's service sector, contributing to the state's economic growth. He noted improvements in the health and longevity of Selangorians, with life expectancy rising from 65-68 years in 2008 to 75-80 years currently.

Sunway Healthcare Group President Datuk Lau Beng Long stated that the total capital expenditure for SMCD's development and future expansion is expected to reach approximately RM460 million. This investment includes expanding two new ward levels, increasing overall bed capacity to 375 beds.

In addition to expanding the main facility, Sunway plans to develop an adjacent three to four-acre site. This development will feature a Cancer and Nuclear Medicine Centre, a senior living facility named Sunway Sanctuary, and potentially Malaysia's first Proton Beam Therapy Centre.

Furthermore, the Sunway Group has invested RM50 million in surrounding public infrastructure, including a direct flyover ramp and a pedestrian link bridge to the Surian MRT station. SMCD, which began operations in December 2024, currently has over 300 beds and 60 specialist consultation suites, equipped with advanced technologies like AI and robotic-assisted surgical solutions.
