Sungai lang: The development of the Sungai Lang Fisheries Industrial Zone here will be implemented in phases as part of Selangor's efforts to become a comprehensive fisheries processing industry hub, says Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. He said the industrial zone was expected to add value to the state's fisheries sector through more comprehensive processing activities, including the production of downstream products such as fish-based food, which is set to commence within five years.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin stated that the development would not only focus on storage or freezing activities of marine produce, but would also involve the production of seafood-based products. He mentioned that the initiative would create a complete industry supported by logistics and distribution sectors. He shared these insights with reporters after launching the Sungai Lang Fisheries Industrial Zone.
Amirudin highlighted that the zone also had the potential to become a processing centre for fisheries products from surrounding areas, including Sabak Bernam, Bagan Datuk, and Kuala Selangor. He explained that unlike the Selangor Integrated Landing Port (SILP) project in Sekinchan, which focuses more on a landing centre and ecotourism, the development in Sungai Lang will serve as a fisheries processing industry hub involving various sources, including marine and freshwater fish.
He noted that the development of the approximately 240-hectare area would be carried out in phases, with the master plan currently being finalized. This development is expected to create job opportunities and boost the local economy once operational. Meanwhile, Amirudin mentioned that the project required an initial investment of between RM100 million and RM200 million for basic infrastructure such as roads, water supply, and electricity in the early phase.
He informed that the project, developed through the Sabak Bernam Development Area (SABDA) initiative in collaboration with the private sector, was also supported by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), along with developers and investors. In line with the sustainable development agenda, the zone will adopt modern aquaculture technology and sustainable practices to enhance productivity while preserving coastal ecosystems, including mangrove areas and marine biodiversity.
