Sungai Korok Tragedy Prompts Government Action on Road Safety

Kuala lumpur: The government will look into a proposal to install guardrails and street lights along Jalan Sungai Korok in Jitra, where a recent tragedy claimed the lives of six family members, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Deputy Prime Minister said he had been briefed by the Public Works Department (JKR) on infrastructure upgrades for the road, which connects Jitra to Jerlun.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated, “We will discuss with JKR the installation of guardrails along the riverbank, and I will make efforts to have street lights installed in that area as well as other poorly lit locations.” He emphasized his role as chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Road Safety and Traffic Congestion, assuring that he would inform the relevant minister to ensure immediate action.

He was speaking to reporters after visiting the home of the grandmother of Putri Qisya Nur Izzat, 12, in Kampung Bohor Karang. Putri Qisya is the eldest daughter of Mohamad Azim Izat Ishak and Nurul Hidayah Khadijah Razman Efendi, who perished along with their four children when their car plunged into Sungai Korok early last Saturday.

Ahmad Zahid announced that Putri Qisya will be adopted by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) to support her education up to university level. He reassured that MRSM (MARA Junior Science College) is prepared to accept her next year, with her grandmother’s consent. All necessary assistance will be provided to secure her future.
