Gerik:The Perak Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) has confirmed receiving multiple complaints regarding sun bears entering residential areas within the Gerik district.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perak Perhilitan director Dr. Pazil Abdul Patah reported that the initial complaint was received on September 9, specifically from Taman Raflesia. This was followed by a series of incidents in nearby areas, with further complaints lodged on September 12 and September 16 at Kampung Air Panas, and additional sightings on September 18 and September 28 at Kampung Ulu Kenderong.

The presence of the sun bear has raised public concern and disrupted the peace in these neighborhoods, as the animal has been observed roaming the vicinity. A 26-second video of the bear wandering through a residential area recently went viral on TikTok, further highlighting the issue.

Dr. Pazil noted that there have been no reports of property or crop damage caused by the bear so far. In response to the situation, Perhilitan has intensified monitoring efforts in the affected areas and has set up special traps to capture the animal.
