Pekan: A sun bear was successfully captured by the Civil Defence Force (APM) after it wandered into a residence in Taman Tanah Putih, Pekan this morning. Pekan District APM officer Capt (PA) Ahmad Azmi Nafiah reported that the bear damaged several items in the house, supposedly in search of food, at about 4.30 am. After causing some disruption, the bear climbed out of the house. It is believed to be a pet bear that escaped from a nearby residential area.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the APM received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.36 am, prompting the dispatch of five personnel to the scene. The response team reached the location at 8.57 am, and a team from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) arrived shortly thereafter.

The Perhilitan team managed to subdue the bear by firing a tranquiliser, allowing them to safely take it back to the Kuantan Perhilitan facility.
