Shah alam: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has issued a reminder to football fans to maintain discipline and be mindful of their behavior, both within and outside the stadium, to uphold the dignity of the team and the state. His Royal Highness emphasized the importance of avoiding actions that could result in penalties or fines, and encouraged fans to express any grievances through appropriate channels.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Sultan advised supporters to steer clear of drugs, which can impair morals and judgment. He stressed that spirited support should be coupled with discipline and wisdom. These comments were made at the launch and sale of the book titled "Gemilang: Sejarah Perjalanan Bola Sepak Selangor" (Glory: History of Selangor's Football Journey) as part of the Hari Legasi Merah Kuning celebration.
The event was attended by the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. As the patron of Selangor FC, Sultan Sharafuddin highlighted football as a unifying force for multi-racial Malaysians, advocating for the values of respect and sportsmanship despite the competitive nature of the sport.
His Royal Highness expressed his hope for Selangor FC to continue advancing confidently and to uphold the legacy of success for future generations. Reflecting on the team's past achievements during the 1960s to 1980s, Sultan Sharafuddin noted that Selangor thrived internationally without relying on imported players, crediting the success to the discovery of local talents and a focus on discipline and passion.
The Sultan remarked that this approach fostered a strong emotional connection between players and supporters, contributing to the team's accomplishments.
