Ipoh: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, today inaugurated the Northern Brigade General Operations Force's (GOF) Satria Perkasa Monument. The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail, and acting Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the event also saw the presence of Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, Northern Brigade commander SAC Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh, and Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin. In his speech, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail emphasized that the Satria Perkasa Monument is more than a physical landmark. It is a testament to the Royal Malaysia Police's dedication to preserving history and honoring the service of past national heroes.
Khalid remarked that a great institution is judged not only by its efforts to build a better future but also by its respect for history that has shaped its current strength. He stated that the monument is a tribute to the service, sacrifice, and courage of the personnel from the era of the Police Field Force to today's General Operations Force. The name 'Satria Perkasa' aptly represents the warriors of integrity and resilience, while 'Perkasa' symbolizes the strength to safeguard national peace.
He further explained that the monument's three pillars symbolize the GOF's official motto: steadfast, courageous, and loyal. The Panel of Fallen Heroes bears the names of Northern Brigade personnel who were killed in the line of duty, from the Trimus Confrontation in Sarawak in 1963 to Ops Taring in Kedah and Perlis in 2020. Khalid noted that sixty-eight heroes sacrificed their lives for the nation, and their engraved names serve as a reminder to future generations of their duty to preserve peace.
Meanwhile, Che Hasrunaveca, the only child of the late Constable Che Hasnor Uval, expressed her gratitude to those responsible for the monument. She hopes it will preserve the memory of the fallen heroes for future generations. Her father lost his life when his helicopter crashed during Ops Bamboo in Perak on November 9, 1989.
Rokiah Salle, whose husband Constable Bah Osi Chandran was killed by a booby trap during the same operation on February 5, 1983, also shared her sentiments. She expressed pride and gratitude, stating that her husband's service is remembered, his sacrifice was not in vain, and his contribution to the country is valued. Rokiah is a member of the Temiar community from Kampung Bertam Valley in Cameron Highlands, Pahang.
