Kuala kangsar: Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah delivered a significant decree at the Pledge of Loyalty and Conferment of Perak State Honours Ceremony, marking his 69th birthday at Istana Iskandariah.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sultan Nazrin expressed gratitude for being in good health to continue his reign in Perak, a state that thrives in peace and prosperity. He acknowledged Malaysia’s 68th anniversary of independence, emphasizing that the nation was built on the collective efforts of its people, united across ethnicities and faiths.
Sultan Nazrin highlighted the diplomatic skills of Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, who played a pivotal role in securing the country’s independence. He read a message from Queen Elizabeth II, sent on the eve of Malaya’s independence in 1957, expressing confidence in the nation’s ability to uphold cooperation and goodwill among its diverse communities.
The Sultan stressed the importance of unity, warning against actions that threaten social harmony. He called for the rejection of divisive rhetoric and urged citizens to focus on cooperation and understanding. Sultan Nazrin reminded that true independence goes beyond mere symbols, involving political maturity, economic progress, and national development.
In his decree, Sultan Nazrin cited Islamic teachings that call for understanding and coexistence among different ethnicities and religions. He urged the use of intellect to appreciate diversity as a blessing rather than a source of conflict. The Sultan praised past and present leaders for fostering unity and maintaining peace in Malaysia.
Sultan Nazrin also expressed appreciation for the support from various state and national bodies, acknowledging their roles in Perak’s peace and progress.
