Sultan Nazrin Calls for Rejection of Actions Threatening National Unity

Kuala kangsar: Any action that risks undermining national unity or disturbing harmonious inter-ethnic relations in this country must be decisively rejected, said the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah. His Royal Highness emphasized that efforts to unite the people will face significant challenges when certain groups choose to sensationalize issues of race, religion, state, or region.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sultan Nazrin made these remarks during the Investiture Ceremony for State Honours and Medals of Perak Darul Ridzuan, held in conjunction with his 69th birthday celebration at Istana Iskandariah. He highlighted the importance of focusing on cooperation and understanding, rather than allowing the nation to become a “house of discord” influenced by those seeking power.

Sultan Nazrin underscored that independence is not merely a symbol of freedom from colonial rule but also signifies intellectual liberty, political maturity, and economic growth. He noted that Malaysia, which started with the Federation of Malaya, is a diverse nation enshrined in the Federal Constitution, recognizing various races, religions, cultures, and languages.

The Sultan warned against viewing differences negatively, as this could undermine harmonious relations and disturb the equilibrium among different ethnic and religious groups. He stressed that the spirit of consensus established by the nation’s founding leaders must be upheld, and any actions that contradict unity must be firmly opposed.

Furthermore, Sultan Nazrin cautioned against actions driven by excessive emotion, which could pose serious risks to the nation. He emphasized that there is much to be done to improve the welfare of the people, particularly those living in poverty, and that political disputes should not distract from productive endeavors.

His Royal Highness expressed gratitude for the support of the Raja Muda, Raja Di Hilir, and other royal family members, as well as state officials and community leaders, in assisting him to fulfill his responsibilities. Sultan Nazrin also acknowledged the contributions of the private sector, volunteer organizations, and the community at large in complementing the development efforts of his government.
