Kota bharu: The expansion of Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Kelantan has concluded, and it will be fully operational starting tomorrow, as announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke. The expansion work has significantly increased the airport's capacity, allowing it to handle up to 4 million passengers annually, up from the previous capacity of 1.5 million.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the airport's expansion includes improved facilities such as a larger terminal building and a new layout for the kerbside area. These enhancements aim to streamline passenger flow by separating departure and arrival levels and providing dedicated lanes for taxis, buses, and e-hailing services. The upgrades are intended to enhance the overall passenger experience and ensure smooth airport operations, especially in anticipation of the upcoming festive season.
The improvements are expected to bolster air connectivity to Kelantan and support the growth of tourism, business, and economic development in the state. Currently, five airlines operate at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, covering six domestic routes and one international route to Singapore. Transport Minister Loke mentioned that the official launch ceremony for the expanded terminal would be announced at a later date.
