Sultan Ibrahim Visits Smolny Complex In St Petersburg

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, yesterday visited the Smolny Complex, a historic landmark in St Petersburg, Russia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, His Majesty was received upon arrival at the complex, which currently serves as the administrative centre of St Petersburg, by the city's Governor Alexander Beglov. Also present was the chairman of the St Petersburg Committee for External Relations, Evgeny Dmitrievich Grigoriev.

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim also toured the Smolny Bunker, an underground shelter beneath the Smolny Complex, built in 1937, accompanied by Governor Beglov. Following the tour, His Majesty attended a banquet hosted by Beglov, with Malaysian Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Datuk Cheong Loon Lai, also in attendance.

During the banquet, His Majesty was presented with a video showcasing the city of St Petersburg. Beglov delivered a brief presentation on the city, highlighting it as a popular international tourist destination, featuring nearly 800 bridges, 94 rivers, and about 200 museums.

His Majesty arrived in St Petersburg for a special visit yesterday, at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
