Kuala Lumpur:The close relationship between Sultan Ibrahim of Malaysia and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain has enabled Malaysia to host the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar highlighted that Malaysia's role as host underscores the global community's confidence in the nation and enhances its reputation as a reliable international partner.
Anwar expressed his admiration for Sultan Ibrahim's leadership and his strong ties with King Hamad, which were instrumental in Malaysia's selection as the venue for the 2026 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. He shared these sentiments in a recent post on X.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the potential for this event to strengthen Malaysia-Bahrain relations and open avenues for further cooperation to benefit both countries' citizens.
During the event, Anwar joined Sultan Ibrahim, along with Bahrain's Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to watch the race at the Sepang International Circuit. He also met with other notable attendees, including Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and various distinguished guests.
The 2026 Gulf Air Bahrain GP, set from October 2 to 4, marks the return of Formula 1 racing to Sepang after a hiatus since 2017.
