Sukma: The 22nd Selangor Malaysia Games (Sukma) is anticipated to take place in August 2026, as announced by state Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Mohd Najwan Halimi. This decision, which includes the organization of the Para Sukma in the same month, was finalized during the Sukma 2026 Main Organising Committee Meeting chaired by Menteri Besar Datuk Amirudin Shari.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the timing of the games was decided after considering several international events, including the World Cup from June to July, followed by the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. “We see that there is a gap between the organisation of the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games, so we have decided on August to organise the Selangor Sukma and Para Sukma next year,” Mohd Najwan stated at a press conference after the meeting.

Mohd Najwan also mentioned that the Sepang International Circuit and the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium are potential venues for the opening and closing events of the biennial games. The secretariat has been tasked with assessing the readiness of sports infrastructure across the seven districts in Selangor involved in the games’ organization.

“This is to ensure local authorities and relevant agencies can start upgrading or repairing work immediately so that the infrastructure is ready to be used in 2026,” he emphasized. The organization of Sukma 2026 will feature 28 core sports, with discussions on five additional sports ongoing with the National Sports Council and State Sports Councils.

Mohd Najwan noted, “We want to ensure that the event is held in the spirit of sportsmanship because we do not want the additional sports to give the host an advantage but to open up space for other states to showcase their athletes.” Proposed additional sports include pickleball, chess, equestrian, and e-sports. Regarding the Sukma Games, he added that 10 core sports will be contested, with discussions on additional sports continuing.
