SUKMA 2026: 17 Gold Medals Won Is Perlis’ Best Ever Performance In SUKMA History – Perlis MB

Sukma: The Perlis contingent's remarkable achievement in the Malaysia Games (SUKMA 2026) hosted by Selangor, where they successfully secured 17 gold medals, is an indicator that the state's sports development is on the right track.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah stated that this is the best achievement in the history of the state's participation in SUKMA. This success proves that the continuous efforts of the state government, along with athletes, coaches, sports associations, and the State Sports Council in strengthening sports development, are yielding results.

Abu Bakar highlighted that among the proud achievements were Perlis athletes breaking the games' record in the shot put event, alongside the state's weightlifting team emerging as the overall champion for that event at SUKMA Selangor 2026.

"The state government will continue to focus on talent development, high-performance training programmes, coaching, sports science, facilities, and athletes' welfare to ensure that this performance can be further enhanced in the future," he said at a press conference after chairing the Exco Meeting at Kompleks Seri Putra.

For the record, at the 2026 SUKMA games, Perlis managed to bring home a total of 42 medals, comprising 17 gold medals, seven silver medals, and 18 bronze medals.

Abu Bakar added that the state government is also currently discussing incentives for the athletes who succeeded in the games, with the presentation ceremony expected to be held after the conclusion of Para SUKMA Selangor 2026.
