Kuala lumpur: Universiti Putra Malaysia's (UPM) Wan Muhammad Syafiq Wan Mustaza and Sayyeda Khadeeja Mohammad Anis Fadhil broke the national record in the mixed team 10-metre air pistol event and won gold at the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Games (SUKIPT) today. The pair scored 488.6 points in the final held at the Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) shooting range, erasing the previous record of 444.1 points set by Umar Fareed Faroukh and Mumtazah Syahiidah Shamsuri at the KPT-MASUM competition last April.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the silver medal went to UPNM 1's pairing of Zainal 'Azim Ahmad Mahmud and Khairul Nabiha Baharin, who amassed 451.6 points, while their teammates, Firas Darwish Shahrul Nizam and Mumtazah Syahiidah (UPNM 2), took bronze with 390 points.
The victory marked Muhammad Syafiq's first gold medal in a mixed event at SUKIPT, after he previously won bronze in the men's team air pistol event. It was also Sayyeda Khadeeja's maiden success in a mixed event after she had earlier won two silver medals in the women's individual and team air pistol events.
