Kuala lumpur: A strong earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale was detected off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia, at 2.52 pm today. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its epicentre located 128 kilometres east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, Russia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MetMalaysia issued a statement confirming that despite the strength of the earthquake, an initial assessment found that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia. The department continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety and preparedness of all potentially affected regions.
