Kinabatangan: A stroke patient died when the ambulance he was in collided with a van near Jalan Kampung Paris 1 here this morning.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kinabatangan District Police Chief Supt D Ravi reported that 11 people were injured in the 9.40 am incident. The injured include the ambulance driver, a co-driver, a doctor, and a nurse on board the ambulance, along with eight individuals in the van.

He stated that the injured are currently receiving treatment in the green zone of Kinabatangan Hospital.

“In the incident, the patient, a woman, was being transferred from Lahad Datu Hospital to Queen Elizabeth 1 Hospital in Kota Kinabalu for treatment,” he explained. “As the ambulance was negotiating a bend, a van entered the opposite lane and collided with the ambulance. As a result of the crash, the patient died at the scene.”

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
