Storm Cleanup of Six Public Buildings in Selangor Estimated at RM1.9 Million

Kuala lumpur: The Works Ministry (KKR) has estimated the cost of cleaning six public buildings damaged by a storm in Telok Panglima Garang, Selangor, at RM1.9 million. Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi stated that the premises include Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sijangkang Jaya, SK Kampung Medan, Sekolah Rendah Agama Kampung Medan, SK Jalan Tanjung, Kampung Medan Kemas Pre-school, and the Sijangkang State Constituency Coordinator’s Office.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the estimated preliminary cost does not cover repairs on damaged structures. The actual cost will be disclosed upon receiving repair method recommendations from the Structural Forensic Services Division. The storm caused critical structural damage to the premises, prompting the Public Works Department (JKR) to inspect the sites, close high-risk areas, and prepare an initial report within 24 hours. The focus is currently on structural forensics evaluation and electrical safety before initiating permanent repairs.

Minister Nanta made these remarks following the groundbreaking ceremony for Malaysia’s first integrated electric vehicle (EV) charging hub at the Seremban (southbound) Rest and Service (RnR) area. He noted that the Selangor and Kuala Langat JKR are conducting structural inspections and safety assessments on several public buildings in Telok Panglima Garang. SK Sijangkang Jaya, in particular, suffered roof damage, leading the JKR to advise a suspension of classes until the building’s structural safety is confirmed.

Additionally, Nanta announced that no road maintenance work will be carried out on the affected routes during the 47th ASEAN Summit this month to ensure smooth traffic flow nationwide. This directive, similar to those issued during festive seasons, aims to prevent congestion and facilitate movement for government officials and delegates. The collaboration involves the Malaysian Highway Authority and highway concessionaires.
