Stern Action Against Insults on Race and Religion, Warns Minister

Kuala Lumpur: Minister of Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has issued a stern warning to all parties against spreading provocative, insulting, and ridiculing statements about religion on social media platforms.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aaron has urged the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take immediate action against individuals responsible for disseminating such content. He emphasized the need for strict enforcement through Section 298, Section 504, and Section 505 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, to maintain community safety and harmony.

This statement follows incidents involving a few netizens spreading remarks related to the 3R (Race, Religion, and Royalty) issue on social media. Aaron highlighted the ministry’s commitment to promoting the Speak Good-Good Campaign and fostering national integration through Understanding, Respect, and Acceptance programs, aimed at educating Mala
ysians to respect diverse religions and cultures.

He stressed the importance of using virtual spaces wisely to prevent division or tension within society. He warned that irresponsible actions that insult religion and racial sensitivities pose a threat to national peace and harmony. Aaron also reminded individuals involved in spreading provocative content to consider the negative impact of their actions on societal harmony.

He concluded by stating that provocative actions that disregard the feelings of other religions and races could damage national harmony.
