Status of Labuan MP to Be Decided Soon, Says Johari Abdul

Kuala Lumpur: The status of Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman as the Labuan Member of Parliament will be determined in the near future, as stated by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul. He confirmed that a letter concerning the issue from Bersatu Chief Whip Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee has been received, and all relevant aspects are currently under scrutiny before arriving at a conclusion.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tan Sri Johari Abdul mentioned that he needs time to carefully review the situation. He assured that a decision will be made soon after thoroughly examining all aspects, including legal considerations. He has acknowledged receiving the letter from Bersatu and has also communicated with the Labuan MP. Additionally, Johari plans to consult with several other units since he does not possess complete information at this stage. The decision will be rendered once all necessary information is gathered.

Johari shared these details during a press conference held after the 2nd Consultative Meeting of Young Parliamentarians of AIPA (YPA). Prior reports indicated that Bersatu had formally requested the Dewan Rakyat Speaker to declare the Labuan parliamentary seat vacant. This request came in the wake of a Shah Alam High Court decision on April 15, which dismissed the writ of summons and statement of claim filed by Suhaili against the party.

Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman is one of six Bersatu MPs who lost their party membership last June after expressing support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
