State Exco To Brief Selangor Sultan On Pig Farming Plans In Bukit Tagar On Monday

Kuala lumpur: State Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman, Datuk Izham Hashim, is scheduled to meet Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah this Monday to report on the implementation of a modern, centralised pig farming industry in Bukit Tagar, Hulu Selangor.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, stated that the meeting will provide the state government with an opportunity to present details on the decision made by the State Executive Council (MMKN). This includes measures by enforcement agencies to ensure safety and cleanliness in the surrounding environment.

Amirudin explained that the MMKN has decided to tighten operational requirements for pig farming in Selangor. There will be a focus on better waste management to prevent negative impacts on the drainage system. The initiative aims to protect community health, the environment, and the drainage system, while also preventing odour issues.

The goal is for the industry to operate without causing harm or upsetting local sensibilities. Amirudin noted that this decision is part of a structured approach to tackle the sensitive issue in a balanced manner, as explained by Izham during a press conference last Thursday.

The approach aims to meet community needs and tighten controls for a medium and long-term solution in a systematic way. The state government values the concerns and guidance of the Selangor Ruler and prays for His Royal Highness' continued health and wisdom.

Previously, Sultan Sharafuddin expressed his disappointment with the state government's plan to allow pig farming operations in Tanjong Sepat, Kuala Langat, set to start this year before moving to Bukit Tagar by 2030. A statement from Istana Alam Shah highlighted the Sultan's concern over a potential large-scale pig farming project covering an area of 202 hectares aimed at export.
