Sri Lanka Pursues Extradition of 112 Suspects from 13 Countries

Colombo:Sri Lankan police have identified 112 suspects wanted under Interpol Red Notices who are believed to be hiding in 13 countries, Police Spokesman F.U. Wootler said on Thursday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wootler, speaking at a press conference regarding the progress of the nationwide anti-narcotics operation "A Nation United," stated that authorities are taking steps to bring these suspects back to Sri Lanka, with the goal of securing their return by 2027.

The suspects are involved in criminal activities linked to drug trafficking, which have generated substantial illegal proceeds. In response, police have deployed two specialised units to investigate assets acquired through these illegal activities, including property, vehicles, jewelry, and cash.

Authorities have identified assets worth 1.49 billion Sri Lankan rupees (about US$4.49 million) in 2024, 1.55 billion rupees in 2025, and 1.66 billion rupees so far in 2026 for possible confiscation, Wootler added.
