SRBJ Educators Return From Singapore With Key Insights To Enhance Education In Johor

Johor Bahru: A group of educators and leadership teams from Sekolah Rintis Bangsa Johor (SRBJ) returned from Singapore yesterday with three valuable takeaways aimed at improving education in Johor.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin said the trip, organised with Singapore’s Education Ministry, provided the team with an opportunity to explore innovative teaching practices to be implemented in Johor schools.

In a statement posted on Facebook, he said the first key takeaway was the Applied Learning Programme (ALP), which emphasises real-world experiences and the development of essential 21st-century skills.

He said the second was Interdisciplinary Learning, an approach that integrates multiple subjects to foster holistic thinking and creative problem-solving, while the third was Project-Based Learning (PBL), identified as an effective method to encourage teamwork, leadership, and the practical application of knowledge through collaborative projects.

‘The Johor government remains committed to equipping SRBJ teachers with the best skills, ensuring that we realise a quality education vision for the future of Bangsa Johor’s children,’ Aznan said.

He added that the SRBJ group was also briefed on modern teaching and learning techniques, as well as extracurricular activities focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and English, which aim to boost student interest in these critical fields.

During their visit, the leadership team, including headmasters, principals, and teachers from several Johor schools had the opportunity to observe modern educational facilities and teaching methods at Dazhong Primary School and Marsiling Secondary School.

The group also visited the Punggol Regional Library to learn about the efficient systems in place for book borrowing and space utilisation, which help attract more visitors through thematic designs.

Earlier, Aznan announced that more than 4,300 students and 212 teachers would be involved in the first phase of SRBJ starting Feb 16, with a focus on STEM and English education.
