Perak: The spread of deviant teachings in Perak remains under control despite attempts to disseminate related propaganda through digital platforms and across borders, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said. He stated that the state government continuously monitors developments regarding the spread of deviant teachings through the State Security Committee, which he chairs, and updates from the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk) and the Perak Mufti Department.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, "His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak (Sultan Nazrin Shah), as the head of religion for the state, is also kept informed. Recently, the Deputy Mufti (Datuk Zamri Hashim) and JAIPk Director (Datuk Harith Fadzilah Abdul Halim) briefed His Royal Highness on the matter," Saarani told reporters. This statement was made after the launch of the Halaman Suri Sejahtera Negeri Perak at Taman Lapangan Terbang, where State Women, Family, Social Welfare, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed was also present.
Saarani highlighted that any public complaints or concerns regarding teachings or practices believed to contradict Islamic teachings would be investigated by JAIPk and the Perak Mufti Department. He added that both agencies would conduct investigations in accordance with established procedures before any enforcement action is taken.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Datuk Zulkifli Hasan was reported as saying that the government is strengthening inter-agency cooperation through a whole-of-government approach to curb the spread of deviant teachings, which are increasingly being disseminated through digital platforms and across borders. He emphasized that the government, through the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and in collaboration with the State Islamic Religious Departments, remains proactive, consistent, and firm in monitoring and taking action against doctrines or propaganda that deviate from the principles of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
Zulkifli acknowledged the increasing challenges of enforcement efforts, as the dissemination of deviant teachings has shifted from secret physical gatherings to social media platforms and messaging applications. He noted that some groups operate under the guise of self-development programs, charitable activities, alternative therapies, and informal religious classes.
