SPM 2025 Results Show Improvement Across Most Malaysian States

Kuala lumpur: The 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results demonstrated progress across multiple states, with improvements in the Grade Point Average (GPN) and an increase in the number of high-achieving candidates. According to BERNAMA News Agency, in the capital, the state education director Megat Affandi Ismail noted that the GPN improved to 4.57 from 4.61 in 2024, marking the best performance since 2014. A total of 15,947 candidates sat the examination in Kuala Lumpur, up 2.18 percent from the previous year, while those qualifying for certificates rose to 14,887, continuing a five-year upward trend since 2021.

PUTRAJAYA recorded an improvement in its GPN, which stood at 3.31 compared to 3.44 previously. State education director Nadimin Abdul Aziz reported that 99.19 percent of candidates qualified for certificates, with 195 achieving straight A grades, and only 13 candidates were absent.

In PENANG, 750 candidates obtained straight As, including 25 who secured all A+. State education director Mohammad Dziauddin Mat Saad stated that 16,545 or 92.26 percent of candidates qualified for certificates.

KEDAH saw 715 candidates (2.81 percent) achieve straight As, up from 649 the previous year, with a GPN of 4.52. State education director Abdul Rahim Mat mentioned that 24 candidates attained the highest distinction of straight A+.

PERLIS recorded a slight decline, with 94.36 percent of candidates qualifying for certificates compared to 95.01 percent in 2024. State education director Rose Aza Che Arifin noted a decrease in top performers and a worsened GPN to 4.67 from 4.57.

PERAK showed notable improvement, with its GPN rising to 4.49 from 4.63. State education director Zulkafli Mohamed Mokhtar reported that 1,008 out of 28,058 candidates achieved excellent results, including 26 with straight A+.

NEGERI SEMBILAN exceeded the national average with a GPN of 4.16 against the national 4.42. The state saw 754 candidates achieve top grades, with rural candidates showing stronger gains and a narrowing urban-rural performance gap.

MELAKA improved with 97.07 percent or 10,881 of candidates qualifying for certificates, up from 96.14 percent or 10,532 candidates in 2024. Its GPN rose to 4.26 from 4.43, while 390 candidates secured straight As, including eight with all A+, according to state education director Mahfudzah Mohamed Noor.

PAHANG had 671 candidates achieve top grades, up from 595 previously. State education director Ahmad Zamri Md Isa highlighted an improved GPN of 4.08 from 4.23.

In KELANTAN, education director Siti Norina Muhamad reported a marginal improvement, with a GPN of 4.60 compared to 4.62 in 2024, and 11 candidates achieving straight A+ among 26,072 registered candidates.

SABAH saw 605 candidates obtain straight As, with three achieving straight A+, reflecting an overall positive performance, according to state education director Datuk Raisin Saidin.

SARAWAK recorded a better GPN of 4.79 in 2025 compared to 4.84 in 2024, with 31,509 candidates qualifying for certificates and 853 achieving excellent results. Its education director, Omar Mahli, highlighted the narrowing urban-rural gap, indicating improved access and education quality.

Overall, the results indicate steady progress nationwide, with most states registering improved performance and a continued narrowing of achievement gaps.
