SPM 2025 Results Record Best Achievement – Education DG

Kuala lumpur: The 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination results have achieved a new high with a National Grade Average (GPK) index of 4.42 points, improving from 4.49 points in 2024. Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad announced that 366,435 candidates, or 94.29 percent, were eligible to receive the SPM certificate in 2025, an increase from 355,933 candidates in 2024.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this represents an increase of 10,502 candidates or 0.28 percent. Datuk Dr Mohd Azam expressed his appreciation to teachers, attributing the improved results to their efforts. He noted that the analysis of the 2025 SPM examination results indicates encouraging achievements, highlighting the Ministry of Education (MOE)'s effective strategies towards providing inclusive and quality education aligning with the aspirations of MADANI Malaysia.

Mohd Azam emphasized that the MOE remains committed to ensuring integrity, transparency, and credibility in the national assessment system, as outlined in the Malaysia Education Plan 2026-2035. Out of the 413,299 candidates registered for the 2025 SPM examination, 395,740 were new candidates who registered for at least six subjects. Attendance for MOE school candidates was 348,400, with a decrease in absenteeism compared to the previous year.

The number of candidates achieving excellent results (Grades A+, A, and A-) in all subjects decreased slightly by 3.55 percent, from 13,827 candidates in 2024 to 13,779 candidates in 2025. However, more candidates obtained credit or grade C, with 92,347 candidates in 2025 compared to 86,040 in 2024. Additionally, 141,728 candidates passed or obtained grade E in all subjects in 2025, an increase from 136,791 in 2024.

The achievement gap between urban and rural candidates has narrowed, with urban candidates achieving a GPK of 4.40 points, improving from 4.47 points in 2024, and rural candidates achieving 4.81 points, an improvement from 4.95 points in 2024. In terms of subject performance, 63 out of 95 subjects showed an increase, 29 showed a decrease, and three maintained their performance compared to 2024.

For core subjects, three showed improved performance, while four experienced a decline. Notably, Pendidikan Islam saw the highest increase in performance, while Bahasa Melayu experienced a slight decrease. In the STEM elective subjects, eight out of 12 subjects showed improved performance, with Electrical and Electronic Engineering Studies recording the highest increase.

In the vocational subjects category, 16 out of 22 showed performance improvements. The Humanities and Professional Arts elective subjects saw 11 out of 12 subjects improving, with Entrepreneurship Studies achieving the highest performance increase. The Pengajian Islam elective subjects and language elective subjects also showed increases in performance for the majority of their subjects.
