Kuala lumpur: The 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers who meet specific criteria are being encouraged to pursue the Bachelor of Education (PISMP) programme at Teacher Education Institutes (IPG) across the nation. Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh announced that applications for the 2026 intake are still open, with the deadline set for this Thursday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the intake quota for the PISMP at IPG has been increased to 9,800 for this year, a significant rise from the 5,000 to 6,000 recruits in the past two years. Wong emphasized the acceleration of recruitment to meet field demands and highlighted efforts with Dong Zong and Jiao Zong to promote this opportunity for Chinese Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK).
The programme allows SPM graduates to undergo a five-year study at IPG, after which they will be qualified to teach at national schools and Chinese and Tamil SMJK by 2030 or 2031. Wong shared these details during a press conference following the announcement of the SPM 2025 results at SMJK Yu Hua.
According to the PISMP application document from the Ministry of Education, applicants must pass the SPM with excellent grades in any five subjects and secure at least a credit in Malay, English, and History. Additional requirements include being under 20 years of age by June 30, 2026, physical fitness, and active participation in co-curricular activities.
In the same press conference, Wong highlighted an increase in the SPM 2025 Chinese Language subject results, with a one percent rise compared to the previous year. A total of 40,888 candidates out of 46,046 achieved credits from A to C.
