Putrajaya: The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2025 examination proceeded smoothly as scheduled nationwide, including in states affected by floods, said Education director-general Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad. He reported that contingency measures allowed all 259 candidates affected by the floods to sit for the exam without any disruption.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Mohd Azam expressed gratitude for the successful adherence to the original examination timetable, despite the onset of the monsoon and flood season. He praised the efficiency of SPM personnel and the effectiveness of government agencies in supporting the candidates. His statements were made during a visit to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 11 (1).
Dr Mohd Azam highlighted that 413,372 candidates are participating in SPM 2025, including students from various government and private educational institutions. The Ministry of Education (MOE), through its Examination Board, has collaborated with multiple agencies such as the National Disaster Management Agency and the Civil Defence Force to implement contingency measures, including Ops Payung coordination meetings.
Further, a flood simulation exercise was conducted in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, last September to better prepare for the challenges posed by the monsoon season. The MOE maintains constant communication with the Malaysian Meteorological Department to receive timely weather updates for immediate action at the local level.
Initial steps taken include identifying candidates whose homes are at risk of flood isolation and relocating them to nearby school hostels. Alternative examination centers are also ready, with classrooms designated for exams if primary halls are used as temporary relief centers. Most at-risk examination centers involve only a small number of candidates, facilitating swift relocations.
