Ipoh: National men’s hockey head coach Sarjit Singh has emphasized the necessity for the Speedy Tigers to minimize simple mistakes in their matches to secure positive outcomes at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup (SASC) this year. Sarjit pinpointed the need for improvements in the team’s defense to boost performance ahead of their upcoming match against Belgium.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sarjit commented on the recent match against India, where Malaysia lost 3-4, stating that while the players showed good performance and had opportunities to win, the mistakes made ultimately led to an unfavorable result. He highlighted that while the midfield and attack positions were effective, there is a critical need to enhance the defensive line for future matches.
In the match held at the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium, Malaysia’s goals were netted by Faizal Shaari, Fitri Shaari, and Marhan Jalil. India responded with goals from Karthi Selvam, Sukhjeet Singh, Amit Rohidas, and Sanjay, preventing Malaysia from securing a second consecutive victory.
India’s head coach, Craig Fulton, acknowledged their victory but noted that his team missed several opportunities to increase their lead. Fulton commended the discipline of India’s defensive line, which managed to thwart numerous chances created by the Malaysian players, particularly when Malaysia played with an additional outfield player in the closing stages.
