Special Task Force To Ensure Timely Completion Of RM2.7 Bln Gedong Road Projects – Uggah

Kuching:<Text>

The Sarawak State Government is set to establish a special task force to meticulously oversee the progress of road infrastructure projects valued at approximately RM2.7 billion in the Gedong area. This initiative is designed to guarantee timely completion and address any arising issues promptly.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who also holds the position of State Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD), announced that the task force will be led by his deputy, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo. The task force will convene regular meetings to monitor project progress and tackle challenges encountered during implementation.

Uggah emphasized the importance of close collaboration with the Public Works Department Sarawak (JKRS), the Land and Survey Department, and contractors. This coordination is vital, especially in resolving land-related issues that could potentially disrupt project timelines. 'JK RS and MIPD teams are committed to monitoring these projects very closely to ensure they are completed as planned. That is why we are frequently on the ground,' Uggah informed reporters during a site inspection in Gedong.

He further stated that daily and monthly meetings have been mandated at the implementation level, with progress reports required to be submitted to him bi-monthly. The Gedong road projects encompass three significant developments divided into 10 construction packages, with contractors already active at various sites.

These projects include five packages under the Serian-Gedong-Samarahan Highway, two packages for the upgrading of Jalan Gedong-Simunjan, and three packages for the proposed Jalan Gedong-Semalatong. The completion of these projects is anticipated to notably enhance connectivity, stimulate economic activities, and improve the quality of life for residents in Gedong and its surrounding areas.
