Selangor: The special holiday declared for September 1 to celebrate Selangor's overall victory at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) is applicable to all federal and state civil servants serving in Selangor.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin stated that the state government is encouraging private-sector employers to consider granting their employees a day off. This decision, however, remains at the discretion of the employers, who must take into account their operational requirements and the continuity of services and business operations.

The special holiday is implemented under Subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369), which gives the state authority the power to declare any day as a public holiday for the state. The victory at SUKMA is anticipated to promote a sporting culture and motivate the people of Selangor to actively engage in sports and aim for excellence at the highest level.

Additionally, the state administration extended its congratulations and appreciation to the entire Selangor contingent for their determination and discipline, which brought pride to the state throughout SUKMA 2026. The announcement was made by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari during the games' closing ceremony at Aneka Walk, SA Sentral, on Monday.

The Selangor contingent achieved a total of 101 gold, 73 silver, and 71 bronze medals, surpassing their target of 80 gold medals. This victory marks Selangor's 10th overall SUKMA title, following previous triumphs in 1988, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2013, and most recently, 2016 in Sarawak.
