Kuala lumpur: The Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (JKDNKA) is strengthening intelligence operations along the Kelantan border area to detect any movements or elements from southern Thailand that could pose a security threat.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, director of JKDNKA, announced that the measures include increasing the number of intelligence personnel from the General Operations Force (GOF), in addition to bolstering manpower and assets in high-risk border areas.
"We have our own intelligence personnel from the GOF to carry out duties within our jurisdiction and will collaborate with other departments within the PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police) and also other security agencies, such as the Malaysian Armed Forces," Mohd Yusri stated during a media conference on Op Gali Mega.
He emphasized that JKDNKA, through the GOF, Marine Police, and Federal Reserve Unit (FRU), would continue to enhance operations in areas identified as high-risk, particularly in Kelantan, due to its shared borders with the three southern Thai provinces of Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat.
Mohd Yusri added, "We will continue to improve the deployment, as well as increase manpower, intelligence personnel, and assets in areas where we know there will be incursions or smuggling activities."
In response to the Thai authorities' request for assistance in tracking individuals or agents linked to the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) group, Mohd Yusri mentioned that it involves information sharing between Malaysian and Thai authorities. Any information obtained by JKDNKA would be forwarded to the relevant department.
Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail stated that the PDRM had received a request from the Thai police and military to help trace individuals linked to BRN following several explosions in three southern provinces in Thailand. He noted that such requests were not uncommon, and the PDRM would continue to assist Thai authorities as needed.
On Saturday, a curfew was imposed in Narathiwat province from 10.15 pm to 5 am after more than 50 incidents, including bombings, arson at local government offices, and tyre burnings, were reported across three southern Thai provinces.
