Pengkalan nelayan sungai timun: The 'Sopit Biru Sungai Timun' programme is emerging as a promising tourism attraction in Negeri Sembilan, offering visitors a unique blend of natural beauty, local heritage, and community experiences at Pengkalan Nelayan Sungai Timun here.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim emphasized that the area is renowned not only for its 'sepit biru' (giant freshwater prawn) and fishing activities but also for its firefly watching, stargazing, local cuisine, and the opportunity to immerse in the local community's lifestyle and culture. These attractions are creating economic opportunities for the local residents by allowing them to benefit directly from tourism and ecotourism activities.

Datuk Ismail Lasim highlighted that visitors to Sungai Timun engage with local boat operators, stay in local chalets, and purchase food from local traders, fostering a tourism model that directly benefits the community. He made these remarks during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Sopit Biru Sungai Timun programme at Pengkalan Sungai Timun.

In conjunction with the 2026 Sopit Biru Sungai Timun Challenge, 14,000 giant freshwater prawn fry were released into Sungai Timun. Last year, over 650,000 fish and prawn fry were introduced into Negeri Sembilan's waters to help preserve the river ecosystem.

The programme included a range of activities such as a giant freshwater prawn cooking competition, a decorated boat competition, the Joran Jaguh Kampung fishing competition, children's contests, a Rahmah Sale, exhibitions by government departments and agencies, and evening activities like firefly watching and stargazing along Sungai Timun, making it a suitable event for the whole family.
