Solid Wood Beds by Jertih Entrepreneur Gain Popularity

Jertih:Muhammad Atifin Mohd Zain, a 31-year-old entrepreneur from Kampung Bukit Payong, has seen his solid wood bed products soar in demand, with over 30 orders a month coming from across Terengganu and other states.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Atifin embarked on his carpentry journey in early 2020 after leaving his job as a technician at a medical goods factory in Penang. He is self-taught, having gained his carpentry skills solely online through observation and experimentation. His engineering background, from a diploma in Manufacturing Engineering and Technology from Mara High Skills College Kuantan, aided him in operating and maintaining the machinery for his beds.

With an initial investment of approximately RM150,000, sourced through family loans, Muhammad Atifin started his business by producing rehals before transitioning to beds. Despite initial challenges and limited orders, his commitment to quality eventually led to an increase in demand, reaching over 30 units per month.

The uniqueness of his beds lies in their sturdy structure, traditional craftsmanship aesthetic, and durability, even in floodwaters. Muhammad Atifin uses wooden pegs instead of nails or screws, preserving traditional carpentry techniques and offering customers various wood types, designs, and sizes. Prices range from RM950 to RM1,950, with additional costs for designs such as hand carvings.

His wife, Sofiyyah Ismail, assists in marketing and administration, while he focuses on production with five workers. Muhammad Atifin aspires to expand his company and provide more job opportunities for local youth, emphasizing that perseverance and a willingness to learn can overcome a lack of experience.
