Social Activists Encouraged to Advocate for Nation’s Growth by PM Anwar

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today encouraged social activists to continue actively play a role in voicing their views to bring about positive changes in the country's development. He emphasized the importance of social activism in developing a fair and compassionate nation without excluding any strata of society.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the need for the activist movement to be organised wisely, avoiding the spread of hatred and cynicism. He distinguished social activism from hard political stances, urging individuals to focus on contributing positively to the nation's progress.

The Prime Minister delivered these remarks during the launch of the book 'The Man Who Could Move Mountains: Reflections on the Social Activism' of S.M. Mohamed Idris at the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia. The event was attended by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Speaker of Dewan Rakyat Tan Sri Johari Abdul, IAIS chairman Prof Dr Maszlee Malik, and BERNAMA chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai.

Anwar praised S.M. Mohamed Idris, former president of the Penang Consumers Association (CAP), as an exemplary social activist who steadfastly advocated for consumer rights, social issues, and environmental concerns. He described Idris as a role model for his unwavering commitment to key issues, his courage, and the simplicity of his approach, emphasizing the importance of these qualities in social activism.
