Smallholders Receive Continued Monsoon Assistance from Government – DPM Ahmad Zahid

Kuala lumpur: The government will continue providing the Monsoon Season Assistance (BMT) this year as an ongoing effort to assist smallholders affected by the unpredictable weather, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He stated that RM264.91 million has been allocated for the initiative, which is expected to benefit more than 330,000 recipients nationwide, including those under the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) and the Sabah Rubber Industry Authority (LIGS).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid emphasized that the assistance aligns with the MADANI Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of rural communities. He noted that BMT is not merely a financial aid but a crucial support mechanism when the rainy season threatens harvests and income. Ahmad Zahid highlighted that this initiative demonstrates the government’s care for smallholders, who play a vital role in the country’s industry.

During his speech at the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA) People’s Tuition Programme: Excellent Student Appreciation Ceremony, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, addressed the financial pressures on smallholders. He pointed out that the volatility of commodity prices and yearly weather uncertainties continue to impact their yields and incomes.

Furthermore, Ahmad Zahid stressed that initiatives such as BMT are significant interventions in rural development policy. He added that these efforts provide economic support and acknowledge the hard work of smallholders. The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang, MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, and RISDA chairman Manndzri Nasib.
