Kuala lumpur: Small companies and local contractors will now benefit from a monthly quota of 300 liters of subsidised diesel through fleet cards, as part of a targeted diesel subsidy programme initiated on July 1. This initiative aims to alleviate operating costs for businesses affected by the new subsidy regulations in various states.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali announced that this assistance is specifically for diesel vehicles registered under partnership companies or sole proprietorships, ensuring business operations are not hindered by fuel costs. This measure, approved by the Federal Cabinet, is intended to support micro-entrepreneurs who previously struggled to apply for subsidies individually.
Minister Armizan clarified that small companies benefiting from this quota do not belong to the two main sectors under the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS)-public transport and goods transport sectors-but rather utilize diesel vehicles for their small business requirements. He addressed these issues following the inauguration of the MADANI Foster Village Project in Kampung Sekalong.
Armizan further highlighted the Federal Government's willingness to adapt the subsidy system in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, guided by three core pillars: considering the people's cost factor, managing leakage risks, and maintaining the government's fiscal space. He stressed the importance of these factors in refining the subsidy process.
To bolster the subsidy delivery in remote regions of these states, local agencies will be activated to aid in registration and ensure eligible groups are included. This effort aims to enhance accessibility and efficiency in subsidy distribution.
Moreover, Armizan discussed the allocation of RM500,000 for the development of Kampung Sekalong under the MADANI Foster Village project, which includes constructing an open multi-purpose hall, upgrading roads, and installing solar lights. He emphasized that these projects, set to be completed within the year, are integral to reducing the disparity between urban and rural development. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to provide essential infrastructure and community facilities in underserved areas.
