Kuala lumpur: The drumline of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pendang here rose to the challenge to emerge as the champion in three main categories at the Malaysian Marching Arts Championships (MIMAC) 2025.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, known as Pendang Youth Tiger, the drumline led by 12-year-old Muhammad Azim Akhwan Izwandy delivered an outstanding performance from the start of the competition, clinching the Junior Face-Off, Senior International Face-Off, and Ultimate Showdown titles at Stadium Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur last month.
Speaking to Bernama, Muhammad Azim said that although he felt nervous competing against more senior, experienced opponents, including teams from Indonesia, he and his teammates fought hard to secure victory.
Comprising 22 members aged 10 to 12, Pendang Youth Tiger is part of SK Pendang’s marching band brigade, which has a total of 112 members.
According to the team’s coach, Mohd Zubir Haron, the members’ perseverance and their parents’ unwavering support contributed to the success. “It did not come easily. The team faced many challenges during training, including outdated equipment and numerous technical issues that caused them to arrive late on the day of the championships. But the children’s spirit remained strong and everyone kept them motivated,” he said.
Meanwhile, SK Pendang headmaster Mohd Nasir Yaacob said this high-level achievement reflects the spirit, determination, and hard work of everyone involved, inspiring others to strive for greater success.
