Kuala lumpur: Six significant initiatives implemented by the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) under Budget 2026 have exceeded their targets as of July 31, with the maintenance of public toilets in local authority (PBT) areas recording the strongest performance at 734 per cent, said Minister Nga Kor Ming.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the achievement reflected KPKT's ability to implement the MADANI Government agenda efficiently and responsively, particularly in providing better, more comfortable, and inclusive public facilities. "This achievement demonstrates that every ringgit allocated by the Government is being translated into tangible results that directly benefit the people," Nga stated. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that allocations are not just figures on paper but are transformed into visible, tangible projects that benefit the populace.
Since the MADANI Government took office in 2023, KPKT has successfully implemented nearly 16,000 public facility projects. This includes receiving prestigious accolades such as the National Development Award and the Prime Minister's Innovation Award. The public toilet maintenance initiative in PBT areas, supported by an RM30 million allocation, recorded the strongest performance, with 367 projects successfully implemented compared to the original target of 50 projects.
The construction of MADANI stalls and the upgrading of dilapidated public markets achieved a 170 per cent success rate, with 102 projects implemented against a target of 60 projects. This initiative involved an allocation of RM60 million. Additionally, 304 maintenance projects for non-Muslim places of worship were completed, surpassing the initial target of 200 projects, thus achieving a 152 per cent success rate with an RM50 million allocation.
The initiative to upgrade drainage and sewerage systems recorded an achievement rate of 102.67 per cent, with 154 projects implemented against a target of 150 projects, involving a budget of RM55 million. "This measure is part of KPKT's ongoing efforts to strengthen basic infrastructure and improve drainage capacity, especially to reduce the risk of disruptions and flash floods in PBT areas," Nga explained.
Furthermore, all 113 projects to upgrade fire stations and fire department quarters have been successfully completed with an allocation of RM10 million. Nga also mentioned that 57 out of the 64 programmes under the Bomba Bersama Rakyat Programme had been implemented by July 31, achieving an 89 per cent implementation rate. KPKT aims to fully implement the remaining programmes to meet or exceed the 100 per cent target by the end of the year, strengthening ties between the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the community, and increasing public awareness of fire safety and prevention.
Nga highlighted that these achievements reflect the effective collaboration among ministries, departments, agencies, local authorities, industry partners, and the community in ensuring the comprehensive implementation of the Malaysia MADANI development agenda. He reiterated KPKT's commitment to enhancing service delivery with a focus on performance, results, and impact on the people, ensuring the efficient and effective implementation of every planned initiative.
