Kuala Lumpur:Six projects under the Ministry of Works (KKR) are now facing contract termination due to unsuccessful recovery efforts aimed at improving their performance. These projects have been deemed 'sick' as they fall significantly behind their original contractual schedules.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi emphasized the government's firm stance on this issue, highlighting the importance of contractors fulfilling their responsibilities. The government has reportedly met all its obligations, and projects classified as sick are those delayed by more than 60 days or 20 percent behind schedule.
Nanta explained that these projects are under stringent supervision by ministry officers to ensure corrective actions are taken. He stated that if a contractor's performance fails to improve or worsens, contract termination will occur to protect government interests and ensure project completion for public benefit.
The ministry actively monitors troubled projects through the Project Problem Solving Governance (PSG) Committee, responsible for identifying issues and implementing recovery measures. As of October 31, 38 out of 880 nationwide projects were classified as sick, totaling a value of RM2.08 billion. This marked a slight increase from September's figures but remained below the peak in July.
The KKR continues to enhance monitoring and intervention strategies, including recovery plan preparations and regular progress assessments, to address implementation challenges and ensure project completion.
