Simanggang Considered for Hydro Pump Development Project: Abang Johari

Simanggang: Simanggang, located in the Sri Aman division, has been identified as a potential site for a hydro pump development project aimed at enhancing economic activities in the region, announced Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Premier emphasized that this initiative aligns with ongoing infrastructure projects by the state government in the Simanggang area and its surrounding regions. He highlighted that Simanggang, once an isolated area, now serves as a crucial link between Kuching and Betong due to the coastal road that passes through it.

Abang Johari proposed that the local community should consider organizing an economic forum to discuss the opportunities that the current infrastructure developments present for Simanggang. He expressed hope that the people of Simanggang could leverage these developments to stimulate local economic activities.

The Premier made these remarks during his speech at the Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri 2025 ceremony, which was organized by Anak Perantau Simanggang (APS) and the Sri Aman Mosque Trustees Board.

He further encouraged APS to spearhead efforts in exploring Simanggang’s potential role in the new economy, aligning with the Sarawak government’s overarching economic initiatives. Among the development projects mentioned were the construction of the coastal road, Batang Lupar Bridge 1 and 2, and the Samarahan-Sri Aman two-way road, all of which involve the Simanggang area and the Sri Aman district.
